Start to Finish Party
For my edge project I planned, organized, and created all the decorations for party that someone had asked me to do. To do this I met with the client to start going over ideas as to what kind of a party they wanted. We looked at different themes and colors for us to use in the party. Once the party was figured out we wrote down all the ideas for decorations and decided which ones we liked best. One of the things I worked on and learned from doing this was learning to communicate with others better. It was a lot of planning to figure out what they wanted and what I could do to make them happy.
I had to start working on the decorations right away, because I was making them by hand so I needed time to do that. I needed to get a head start on that because I am in nursing school right now and I don’t have a lot of extra time to be doing my leisure activities. I made garland strands, canvas pictures, signs, and I also worked on putting all of it together. For this I also made the food for the party. I had help from my wonderful family in doing this, or I wouldn’t have made it in time for the party. It was a great project and the clients loved the party.
The inspiration for my project started out as just a love for creating and throwing parties. I then had someone ask me to do a party for them, and I gladly accepted it. To me this was the perfect opportunity for an amazing project. The inspiration for the decoration mostly came from Pinterest when I was browsing and looking at different parties, and projects. Overall my love to throw parties, and the opportunity arising for me to do one was the reason I decided this would be an awesome project for me.
One of my biggest challenges for this project was time for me. I had my original deadline set, but I had to have it finish in time for the party date. If I didn’t there wouldn’t have been a party that day. The other problem with the time was that I am currently a full time student studying at Southern Utah University Nursing program. So whenever I had some free time I would just try and work on making some of the decorations.
Another challenge I had to deal with was finding the materials I need at the price I could afford for them. I had a budget set that I tried my hardest to follow, however sometimes I couldn’t find things for cheaper. So anytime I found something at a cheaper price than the originally I would try and get it. I had to go around and look at several different stores and locations to find everything that I needed. It worked out in the end but it took me a while to find everything and put it together, and I didn’t have a whole lot of time to complete this.
The way my project benefitted others, was that they were able to enjoy a nice party without the stress of putting it together. They didn’t have to have any worries about something not coming together because I was in charge and making sure everything was running smoothly. Overall I was there to make someone’s life easier, less stressful, and plan an event that made them happy.
This project was a huge benefit to me, it taught me so many things while strengthening skills I will use every day. I learned that planning, and sticking with your plans will help you be on top of things and to not be so stressed when the deadlines come. I learned to organize my thoughts and what needed done. Another benefit that I got out of my project was learning to communicate with others better, this includes listening to them and really learning what they want. This will help me in my future career as a nurse because communication is one the biggest things I will need to do between the patient and the doctor. Overall this project has helped me learn skills that will help me be better in my career.
